Lecture Series on Jain Studies

Type: Research Talk | Date: 08/06/26

Location: Online

An important research line of our project members develops around Jain Philosophy of Religion, as part of the activities of the Dharmanath Research Network at the University of Birmingham. Since scholars specialised in Jain philosophy needs to be fully conversant with the concrete life of the Jains and the shifting shape of their communities, this line of scholarship develops in tight relationship with that of philologists, historians, anthropologists, or sociologists.  This lecture series was launched in this dynamic, with a focus on philosophical themes such as consciousness, non-one-sidedness (see “New Research in Jain Studies”, or “The Future of Jain Studies”), theories of karma and the efficacy of mantras, movements that focus on direct realisation of the self (adhyātma movements), and much more.
