A week of Jain Studies at UoB

On September 12-14, the workshop “History, Scripture and Debate: Studies in South Asia in Memory of Paul Dundas” was a most successful gathering of 50 international scholars in Jain and broader South Asian studies and of many representatives of the UK and global Jain community at the University of Birmingham. This event was organised by Dharmanath Network in Jain Studies led by Marie-Hélène Gorisse.

The event was followed by a symposium on “(Non-)One-Sidedness” in Jain philosophy organised by Jinesh Sheth.

To end the series on a high note, 6 members of the international Jain Philosophy Research Group gathered for 4 days of a translation workshop focused on Akalaṅka's Aṣṭaśatī (The Eight Hundred), one of the most important and challenging texts on the Jain theory of non-one-sidedness (anekāntavāda).
